Open your carrier’s destination checker for your actual account. A prepaid offer, pay-monthly contract and business account may have different conditions. Save the relevant terms before departure.

Set the travel eSIM as your data line
- Check that the phone is unlocked and supports the eSIM you intend to use.
- Install the travel profile on dependable internet, following the plan’s instructions about installation, activation and validity.
- Label the home and travel lines so you can distinguish them in settings.
- Select the travel eSIM for Mobile Data or Cellular Data.
- Disable automatic mobile-data switching to prevent fallback to the home line.

Keeping your home number can still cost money
Turning off Data Roaming controls the home line’s roaming data; it does not disable its calls or SMS. Keeping that line enabled may let you receive verification messages, but delivery and charges remain subject to your home carrier and the service sending the code.
Check incoming-call and voicemail rules before answering or retrieving a message. If you do not need the home number during the trip, switching that line off avoids using its mobile service, but also makes its calls and carrier SMS unavailable while it is disabled.
