SIM cards in Suriname are available through Telesur and Digicel, with physical and digital options to investigate. Telesur advertises prepaid SIM and eSIM purchases through its branches; Digicel publishes tourist eSIM data packages and a physical SIM-to-GO product.
For a visitor, the main purchase questions are the final price in Surinamese dollars, the documents the seller accepts and how to pay. A published data allowance does not confirm that a foreign bank card will work in an app or that every outlet can complete visitor registration.
At NoveSIM, we provide travel eSIM plans for mobile data. We do not provide a Suriname telephone number, conventional calls or SMS with these plans. Maps, bookings and internet communication apps such as WhatsApp can use the data connection.
Quick answer: Compare Telesur for a local all-services SIM or eSIM and Digicel for its advertised 30-day tourist data options. Digicel officially lists an airport sales point, but its hours are tied to specified arrivals from Amsterdam. Bring identification and confirm the complete visitor requirements before buying. International Digicel top-up supports card payments, but that is not proof that a new tourist eSIM or an airport purchase accepts your foreign card. NoveSIM is an alternative when you need data rather than a local calling line.

Which SIM cards in Suriname suit a visitor?
If you need to telephone a local business, ask for a service that supplies ordinary calls and a telephone number. A tourist data package should not be assumed to include those functions merely because it comes from a local operator.
Telesur distinguishes all-services SIMs for phones from data-only SIMs for laptops and tablets. Digicel describes its tourist eSIM offers as data plans. Check the underlying line and calling charges separately if a local number is important.
For navigation and app messages, compare the usable allowance and expiry against our NoveSIM Suriname data plans. Do not compare only the headline number: a local SIM purchase may have separate charges, and the operator’s advertised price may exclude tax.
Telesur sells prepaid SIMs and eSIMs
The official Telesur SIM page, checked on 13 October 2026, advertises both physical SIM and eSIM at SRD 115. It also lists an anniversary promotion providing 1 GB and 45 on-net minutes with a new prepaid SIM or eSIM, valid through 31 December 2026.
There is an official price discrepancy: a separate Telesur FAQ page gives SRD 123.34 for a physical SIM or eSIM. We have not confirmed whether this difference reflects tax or outdated information. Ask for the current complete price rather than treating SRD 115 as a guaranteed checkout total.
The promotion’s closing date is not the same as the validity of its included data or minutes. Confirm when those benefits start and expire, and which additional prepaid bundle suits the rest of your stay. On-net minutes do not cover every local telephone number.
Telesur says a physical SIM can be converted to eSIM at a branch. That does not establish that a visitor can complete a new purchase entirely remotely with a foreign card.
Digicel’s tourist eSIM and physical SIM-to-GO
Digicel’s Suriname tourist page lists three 30-day data packages. The displayed prices explicitly exclude tax:
| Data | Advertised validity | Price before tax |
|---|---|---|
| 5 GB | 30 days | SRD 400 |
| 10 GB | 30 days | SRD 600 |
| 15 GB | 30 days | SRD 800 |
The page describes registration, activation and extra data through MyDigicel. Although rollover is advertised, the checked tourist page does not fully explain the conditions or establish precisely when the 30-day period begins. Confirm those details before arranging the purchase well ahead of departure.
For a physical card, the same page advertises SIM-to-GO as a prepaid SIM preloaded with data, available through retailers including petrol stations and pharmacies. It displays a price of “$750” without clearly identifying the currency in that section or providing the complete allowance and expiry. Obtain those details from the seller; do not mistake the figure for US dollars or assume it matches a tourist eSIM tier.
Retailer availability is useful, but it is not proof that a particular petrol station has stock or that every reseller can resolve a registration problem.
Shops and the airport purchase window
The Telesur branch list confirms SIM sales and gives these practical locations:
- Centrum: Heiligenweg 14, Paramaribo.
- Latour: Latourweg 57, Paramaribo.
- Lelydorp: Indira Gandhiweg 474, Wanica.
Each is listed Monday to Friday, 8:00–15:30. Confirm holiday hours and the requested SIM format before travelling to a branch. These weekday schedules are not a solution for every evening or weekend arrival.
Digicel’s official locator lists a J. A. Pengel International Airport outlet, described as “Outside Arrival Terminal – Baggage Claim Hall”. Its stated opening schedule covers arriving SLM and KLM flights from Amsterdam. The listing does not promise service for every flight or around the clock; check your particular arrival with Digicel.
For a later city purchase, Digicel lists Hermitage Mall, Unit 95, Monday to Saturday 9:00–21:00 and Sunday 16:00–21:00. Its Lelydorp shop is at Indira Gandhiweg 849, with published hours Monday to Friday 8:00–18:00 and Saturday 8:00–16:00.
Save the pickup contact and accommodation address offline regardless of the buying plan. A flight-linked counter schedule is not a guarantee of stock, successful payment or a working connection before leaving the airport.
Identification: what is confirmed and what is not
The Digicel prepaid page lists a valid government-issued identity document and a compatible device among its customer requirements. It does not give a complete tourist-specific checklist detailing accepted foreign documents, address requirements or the precise online identity process.
We have not confirmed a complete Telesur prepaid checklist for foreign visitors. Its postpaid forms request identification, but postpaid applications should not be presented as the rules for buying a tourist prepaid line.
Bring your original passport as practical preparation and ask the intended outlet what else is needed. Do not interpret that advice as proof that a passport alone is sufficient. Ask whether the shop can register a non-resident, whether copies are required and whether the phone needs to be present for activation.
Can you pay with a foreign Visa or Mastercard?
There is a verified international payment route for recharging an existing Digicel number. The Digicel International top-up FAQ includes Suriname and lists card payment options; its terms also describe processing certain US-issued Visa and Mastercard payments.
That evidence concerns top-up, not necessarily buying a new Suriname tourist eSIM in MyDigicel. It does not establish which foreign cards the airport counter or other shops accept. Approval can also depend on the issuing bank and payment checks.
For Telesur, acceptance of a foreign card for a new prepaid purchase was not confirmed. Ask the branch about accepted payment methods and currency before visiting. Keep a practical backup if a card fails, rather than making your first connection depend on one untested payment route.
Check the purchase while staff can still help
- Confirm the final price, currency and tax treatment, including any separate SIM charge.
- Complete the seller’s registration process and verify the exact allowance and validity start.
- Select the new line for data and switch Wi-Fi off briefly to load a fresh webpage.
- If you bought a calling service, check the assigned number and test the required call or SMS function.
- Ask how to check the balance, add data and avoid an unwanted renewal if the selected package renews automatically.
- Keep the receipt and operator support details for the remainder of the trip.
Ask about your actual route if you will leave Paramaribo. A shop test establishes service at that location, not uninterrupted coverage throughout an inland journey. Save essential directions and arrange communication expectations with your guide.
NoveSIM when you need internet without a local line
A NoveSIM data plan can remove the local shop purchase from your arrival arrangements. First use our eSIM compatibility guide and check carrier-unlocked status. Then review the Suriname package’s allowance, validity and supported networks.
Our product page currently lists Telesur 3G and Digicel Suriname N.V. 4G. Check the selected package rather than assuming it provides both networks or the same access as either operator’s domestic plan. Speed, reception and hotspot support depend on the plan, device and local coverage.
Read the supplied validity and installation instructions before installing over reliable Wi-Fi. On arrival, select the NoveSIM line for mobile data and enable data roaming on it as instructed. Keep home-line data roaming off unless you deliberately intend to use it, and prevent automatic switching back to home-line data.
Our guide to using a travel eSIM alongside your original SIM explains how to keep your existing number available. Home-provider calls and SMS may still incur charges; NoveSIM data does not replace a conventional calling allowance.

FAQ
Does Telesur sell eSIMs in Suriname?
Yes. Its official SIM page advertises prepaid physical SIMs and eSIMs and directs buyers to branches. Prices differ between its SIM page and a separate FAQ, so confirm the current total. A fully remote visitor purchase with a foreign card was not verified.
Can I buy a Digicel SIM at J. A. Pengel Airport?
Digicel’s official locator lists an airport outlet with hours tied to arriving SLM/KLM flights from Amsterdam. Confirm service for your flight, available products and payment methods. It is not published as a guaranteed 24-hour counter.
Is international top-up proof that I can buy a tourist eSIM with my card?
No. Digicel International supports top-up for Suriname numbers and lists card payment options, but buying a new tourist eSIM in MyDigicel is a different transaction. Foreign-card acceptance for that purchase or at a physical counter remains unconfirmed.
Do I need a local Suriname number for WhatsApp?
No. Your existing WhatsApp account can use a mobile-data connection without acquiring a local number. NoveSIM provides data for internet apps, not a Suriname telephone number, ordinary calls or SMS. Choose a suitable local calling service if those functions are necessary.
Final Recommendation
When comparing SIM cards in Suriname, settle the payment and registration questions before selecting solely by data volume. Telesur offers physical and digital local lines; Digicel has published tourist data packages and a retailer-based physical option.
Verify the full charge and service at the intended outlet, especially for an airport arrival. Treat conflicting Telesur prices and incompletely specified SIM-to-GO terms as questions to resolve, not details to guess.
If maps and app communication are enough, compare NoveSIM as a data-only alternative and prepare it according to the selected plan’s instructions. Keep arrival information offline whichever service you choose.
