SIM Cards in Bonaire: Digicel, Chippie and Travel Data

SIM cards in Bonaire can provide a local calling line as well as internet, but buying one may involve a trip into Kralendijk. Digicel publishes a tourist eSIM range and directs physical Tourist SIM buyers to its store. Flow/Chippie is another option to investigate, although its current visitor purchase terms need confirmation.

For a diving holiday or a stay outside town, the practical question is whether you need ordinary telephone calls or just data for directions, messages and bookings. Decide that before arranging a shop visit, particularly if you arrive after the published opening hours.

At NoveSIM, we provide mobile-data travel eSIM plans. We do not provide a Bonaire telephone number, conventional calls or SMS with these plans. WhatsApp and other internet communication apps can use the data connection.

Quick answer: Digicel lists tourist eSIMs at US$30 for 7 GB/7 days, US$50 for 20 GB/14 days and US$90 for 50 GB/28 days, with calling benefits. Its Bonaire shop is at Kaya Grandi 26. Physical-SIM pricing, the full visitor document checklist and current Flow/Chippie purchase conditions were not confirmed. For data only, compare NoveSIM after checking your phone and selected plan; do not depend on finding an airport SIM counter.

Buying SIM cards in Bonaire: local calls or internet only?

A local number is useful when a rental company or other contact expects an ordinary telephone call. It is not automatically necessary for WhatsApp: your existing account can continue over a different data connection without acquiring a Bonaire number.

Check which numbers a calling allowance covers. Unlimited calls within one operator’s network do not mean unlimited calls to every local business. If your main requirement is maps and messaging, compare data allowance, validity and the effort of purchasing locally rather than paying for calling benefits you will not use.

Our Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba eSIM product page contains the current NoveSIM data options. Check the selected package for your itinerary; its regional name does not imply that Aruba or Curaçao is included.

Digicel’s published tourist eSIM packages

The official Bonaire Tourist eSIM page, checked on 13 October 2026, lists the following packages. These are the advertised eSIM prices, not verified prices for the physical version.

Package Data Other-network minutes Price, tax included
7 days 7 GB 60 US$30
14 days 20 GB 60 US$50
28 days 50 GB 200 US$90

Digicel also lists unlimited Digicel minutes and SMS, plus roaming in Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. Confirm the destinations and networks covered by the calling allowance before relying on it for a particular number.

The page’s FAQ says the original tourist plan cannot be renewed, although an LTE plan can be bought while the SIM remains active. It separately says a Tourist SIM expires after one month unless topped up. Ask how these rules apply to the product you buy: the data package expiry and the continued life of the telephone line are different questions.

The checked information does not clearly establish the precise event that starts package validity. Confirm this before installing well ahead of departure. A QR code arriving by email should not be treated as proof that you can postpone every activation step without affecting the package.

Where to buy a physical Digicel Tourist SIM

Digicel explicitly directs physical Tourist SIM buyers to a store. Its Bonaire store locator lists Kaya Grandi 26, Kralendijk, with these hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:00–17:30.
  • Saturday: 8:00–13:00.

No Sunday schedule is provided in the checked listing. Contact the shop for holiday hours, stock and the complete charge for a new physical Tourist SIM. Do not assume the online eSIM packages are available on a physical card at the same price.

If you arrive on Saturday afternoon, arrange your initial communication before departure rather than planning around a store visit after its listed closing time. Save the accommodation address and pickup instructions offline.

Flow / Chippie: verify the local offer before visiting

The travel-information site Bonaire.com identifies Flow/Chippie as a local mobile option and places its shop at Kaya Grandi 32. This is a secondary listing: we have not independently confirmed that address and its current hours through an operator store page.

We also have not confirmed a current Flow Bonaire tourist package, new-SIM price, visitor eSIM option or complete registration checklist from an official local source. Ask Flow which product is available to a short-term visitor, whether the seller can activate it and what happens when the first allowance expires.

Published Flow offers for Curaçao, Saba or Sint Eustatius should not be used as Bonaire prices or activation instructions. A familiar Chippie brand name does not establish identical conditions across the islands.

Can you buy a SIM at Flamingo Airport?

Bonaire.com reports that SIM cards are not sold at Flamingo Airport and directs visitors to Kralendijk. We did not obtain direct airport confirmation of that restriction, so treat it as travel-planning information rather than a guaranteed statement about every current retailer.

The safest arrival plan does not depend on finding a seller there. Arrange data beforehand if it is essential, keep transfer details available offline and check the city shop’s hours for your arrival day. Hotel Wi-Fi may help with later arrangements, but availability and access should be confirmed with the accommodation.

Registration and the questions to settle at the counter

The checked Digicel tourist page does not provide a complete Bonaire visitor-registration checklist. General privacy notices describe information an operator may collect, not the precise documents required for this purchase. Flow’s requirements remain unconfirmed too.

Bring your original passport as practical preparation and ask the chosen seller what else is needed. This is not confirmation that a passport is mandatory in every case or sufficient on its own.

  1. Confirm that the outlet can sell and register the requested prepaid service for a non-resident visitor.
  2. Ask for the accepted documents, SIM format and total charge, including any separate activation fee.
  3. Check the allowance, validity start, expiry and whether topping up extends the line, adds data or both.
  4. Have the line activated and select it for mobile data.
  5. Switch Wi-Fi off briefly and open a fresh webpage. Test ordinary calls or SMS if those were essential purchase requirements.
  6. Keep the receipt, number and support contact, and have staff explain the balance-check method.

Resolve a failed connection before leaving the shop. Do not enter another provider’s APN or activation code simply because it appears in a general Caribbean SIM guide.

Using NoveSIM for data during your Bonaire stay

NoveSIM is an alternative when you want mobile internet without obtaining a local calling line. Before paying, check your phone’s eSIM compatibility and carrier-unlocked status. A phone’s regional variant can affect compatibility.

Review the selected plan’s validity, supported networks and any speed restrictions. Do not assume that a travel eSIM offers the same networks or calling benefits as Digicel’s local tourist package. Hotspot support and reception depend on the plan, device and local conditions.

Install over reliable Wi-Fi according to the purchase instructions, after checking when validity starts. On arrival, select the NoveSIM line for mobile data and enable data roaming on that line as instructed. Keep home-line data roaming off unless you deliberately intend to use it, and prevent automatic data switching back to the home line.

Read our guidance on using an eSIM alongside your original SIM if you want to retain your existing number. Keeping it active does not make home-provider calls and SMS free abroad.

For drives to unfamiliar dive sites or less populated parts of the island, save directions and booking details offline. A working connection in Kralendijk is not evidence of continuous reception along every coastal road, and mobile data should not be treated as emergency communication offshore.

FAQ

Where can I buy a physical tourist SIM in Bonaire?

Digicel directs buyers to its store and lists Kaya Grandi 26 in Kralendijk. The published hours are Monday to Friday 8:00–17:30 and Saturday 8:00–13:00. Confirm physical-SIM stock and pricing before visiting. Flow’s reported Kaya Grandi 32 location still needs operator confirmation.

Are Digicel’s online prices also physical-SIM prices?

That was not confirmed. The Bonaire page advertises eSIM packages at US$30, US$50 and US$90 for 7, 14 and 28 days respectively, and separately directs physical Tourist SIM buyers to a store. Ask for the physical version’s complete price and allowance.

What documents do tourists need for a Bonaire SIM?

A complete current visitor checklist was not confirmed for Digicel or Flow/Chippie. Bring your original passport as preparation, but ask the intended shop which documents it accepts and whether additional details are required. Do not assume passport-only registration.

Does a NoveSIM Bonaire plan include Aruba and Curaçao?

Do not assume so. Check the destination list of the specific NoveSIM package. Digicel’s advertised three-island roaming benefit does not establish NoveSIM coverage. Our travel plans provide data, not a Bonaire number or conventional calls and SMS.

Final Recommendation

For SIM cards in Bonaire, first decide whether a local calling line is necessary. Digicel provides the clearest verified tourist package and shop information in the checked sources; obtain the physical-SIM price and registration requirements directly before visiting.

If Flow/Chippie is your preferred option, confirm the actual Bonaire offer and store details rather than relying on another island’s conditions. For data only, compare NoveSIM’s current package after checking your device and travel dates.

Plan the first connection around your arrival time, not an assumed airport counter. Offline pickup details and a tested service let you continue the trip even when a shop is closed or mobile reception is unavailable.
