SIM Cards in Antigua and Barbuda: Shops, Calls and eSIMs

A local SIM in Antigua and Barbuda is worth investigating if your trip involves ordinary telephone calls, or if your handset needs a physical SIM. Digicel, Flow and APUA/inet provide local mobile services. Their advertised bundles do not necessarily explain the cost or registration requirements for a visitor opening a new account.

For a stay on Antigua, St John’s has confirmed Digicel locations. Digicel also lists a branch in Codrington, Barbuda. Buying on one island and using the service on the other still calls for a coverage check: a shop address is not evidence of reception at your accommodation.

Our NoveSIM travel eSIMs provide mobile data, without a local number, conventional calls or SMS. We do not provide the same calling service as a voice-inclusive local SIM. Messaging and internet calling apps can use the data connection.

Quick answer: If you need local calls, compare the current local offers and confirm that a visitor can register for the one you choose. Digicel’s Redcliffe Street and Market Street shop in St John’s and its Codrington branch are listed officially. For app-based communication, compare a travel eSIM with your home roaming allowance. Verify the total cost, documents and validity before payment; neither an airport SIM counter nor passport-only registration is confirmed here.

Will you actually need local calls?

Start with the people you expect to contact. If your accommodation and transfer provider use WhatsApp, data may cover those conversations. If you need to ring a restaurant, rental company or other business through the normal phone dialler, included local calls can be useful. Sending an app message and dialling a telephone number are different services.

A local voice allowance is not automatically an international calling allowance. Check the destinations included in the selected bundle, especially if you intend to call home. Similarly, keeping your home SIM enabled for incoming SMS does not make all home-network calls free while abroad.

For data-only use, see the current Antigua and Barbuda eSIM plans. Compare the allowance and validity against the complete local purchase price. A local bundle can be attractive, but a separate SIM charge or compulsory initial top-up may change the comparison.

Digicel’s tourist offer and regular prepaid bundles are different

On 11 October 2026, the Digicel Antigua and Barbuda tourist page advertised an eSIM with 5.5 GB, local calls and three days of validity for XCD27, including tax. XCD is the East Caribbean dollar: do not read this as a US$27 price.

Three days is the main limitation to consider for a longer holiday. Before purchasing, establish when that period starts and how to extend service afterwards. The page’s Caribbean label does not, by itself, establish which other destinations are included. Ask for the exact country list if you have another island on your itinerary.

The operator’s regular prepaid page separately lists a seven-day bundle with 8.5 GB of general-use data and local calls at XCD48, including tax. Additional entertainment data is listed separately; it should not be counted as interchangeable data for all apps. These are advertised bundle terms, not a confirmed total for a new tourist SIM.

The tourist offer is promoted as an eSIM. Do not assume that the same package is available on a physical SIM, or that the physical card is free. Ask the shop to distinguish the card, initial account setup and bundle charges. If local calls are your reason for buying, confirm the calling conditions rather than choosing solely by the data amount.

Digicel shops in Antigua and Barbuda

The official Digicel store locator lists the following locations. These details were checked on 11 October 2026; contact the branch before travelling specifically for a SIM, particularly around public holidays.

Location Published address Published hours and phone
Redcliffe Store, Antigua Corner of Redcliffe Street and Market Street, St John’s Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm; Saturday 8 am to 1 pm. +1 268 736 0641.
Corporate Office, Antigua Hills Park, Friar’s Hill Road, St John’s Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. +1 268 736 1041.
Barbuda branch Codrington, Barbuda Monday to Friday 8 am to 4 pm. +1 268 736 2303.

Ask whether the location can issue a new visitor SIM in the format you need. A corporate office listing does not guarantee the same retail services or stock as a named shop. For Barbuda, confirm availability before setting aside time to visit the Codrington branch.

No official SIM counter inside V. C. Bird International Airport was confirmed in this research. That does not prove there is none, but it is not a dependable arrival plan. Save the transfer confirmation and accommodation address before flying, and arrange how you will contact the driver if mobile service is not yet available.

What about Flow and APUA/inet?

The Flow Antigua website confirms prepaid mobile services. However, the pages checked did not establish a clearly documented tourist registration process or a complete new-SIM purchase price. A handset promotion tied to a prepaid plan is not the price of a standalone visitor SIM.

Flow’s store finder returned Jamaican locations during our Antigua searches. We have therefore not used those results as Antigua shop addresses. Obtain a current branch address from Flow’s Antigua support before making a journey, and specify that you want a new prepaid mobile SIM rather than bill-payment assistance.

APUA’s official customer-service information confirms inet Mobile and store-based service. Available location information did not give us a sufficiently consistent current retail address for a tourist SIM purchase. Confirm the branch directly with APUA/inet rather than relying on an old Independence Avenue listing.

Neither uncertainty means these operators cannot sell to visitors. It means the visitor eligibility, accepted documents, available SIM format and current total price need confirmation before we recommend a specific purchase.

Do tourists need identification?

The operator material reviewed does not establish a single registration rule that applies to every tourist offer. Digicel mentions a valid government-issued ID within a promotion for customers switching from Flow. That requirement cannot be treated as the complete policy for a new visitor account.

Take your passport as practical preparation, but do not assume it is the only document required or that registration is guaranteed. Ask whether the selected offer accepts foreign visitors, which identification is accepted and whether you must supply an address. Use the operator’s verified registration channel for any documents.

A useful question for the branch is: can you issue a prepaid physical SIM to an overseas visitor today, what must I bring, and what is the full cost including the initial bundle? This resolves more than asking only how much mobile data costs.

Check the phone before going to a shop

If you intend to insert a local physical SIM, check that your handset is unlocked and accepts another operator’s SIM. If you are considering an eSIM, verify the exact device variant using our compatible-device list and the handset manufacturer’s information. Regional variants of a model can differ.

For an eSIM bought before departure, follow the supplied installation instructions over a stable internet connection. Our eSIM setup explanation covers receiving and installing the profile. Read the selected plan’s activation conditions before installation; do not assume that every provider starts validity at the same stage.

With two lines enabled, deliberately choose the one that should supply data. If avoiding chargeable home roaming, keep data roaming off on the home line and prevent automatic mobile-data switching to it. Follow the travel provider’s instructions for the travel line, which may require data roaming to be enabled.

Before paying, settle these five points

  1. Confirm visitor eligibility and the identification needed for the exact physical SIM or eSIM offer.
  2. Obtain the full price in the stated currency, including the card, tax and any required top-up.
  3. Separate general-use data from app-specific allowances and check the precise validity start.
  4. Confirm included call destinations, renewal arrangements and charges outside the bundle.
  5. If visiting Barbuda, ask about service at the places you will stay, not merely whether the package carries the country’s name.

A branch in Codrington confirms a place to ask for service; it does not justify island-wide coverage promises. Reception depends on the local network and location, while access through a travel eSIM also depends on the plan’s partners. Keep booking and transport details available offline when moving between islands.

FAQ

Where can I look for a local SIM in St John’s?

Digicel officially lists its Redcliffe Store at the corner of Redcliffe Street and Market Street. Contact it to confirm visitor registration, physical SIM stock and the total purchase price. The Corporate Office on Friar’s Hill Road is also listed, but its retail services should be checked separately.

Is there a Digicel shop on Barbuda?

Yes. The official locator lists a Codrington branch with weekday hours and a contact number. This does not guarantee stock or reception everywhere on Barbuda. Ask about the required SIM and the areas you plan to visit before relying on it.

Is Digicel’s XCD27 tourist plan a physical SIM package?

The tourist page promotes it as an eSIM with 5.5 GB, local calls and three days of validity, including tax. It does not establish that the same offer is available on a physical card. Check the format, registration and validity trigger with Digicel.

Should I choose a local SIM if I only use WhatsApp and maps?

Not necessarily. A data-only travel eSIM or an included home roaming allowance may serve those needs without a shop visit. A local voice-inclusive service becomes more relevant when you need conventional telephone calls, or a physical SIM for a handset without eSIM support.

Final Recommendation

For local calls, investigate the voice-inclusive offers and confirm tourist registration before choosing. Digicel has verified locations on both Antigua and Barbuda, but purchase arrangements and coverage still need to match your particular stay.

For maps, email and app conversations, compare data-only travel options without assuming a local number is necessary. Our Antigua and Barbuda product page provides the current NoveSIM plans; this guide helps you decide whether local calling and shop-based purchase are more useful for your trip.

Settle the currency, total cost and expiry before payment. Having those answers, plus your transfer details saved offline, is more valuable than arriving with an unverified promise of a cheap airport SIM.
