Traveller installing an eSIM on private Wi-Fi.

How to Install an eSIM for Uganda Before You Travel

Install your Uganda eSIM before departure while the phone is connected to reliable private Wi-Fi. Use the QR code, quick-install option or manual details supplied with the NoveSIM order, then keep the new profile on the phone until the trip is complete.

Installation downloads the eSIM profile to the device. It is separate from using the plan in Uganda, so the absence of a Ugandan signal while you are still at home is normal.

NoveSIM travel eSIM plans are data-only. They do not provide a Ugandan phone number, traditional voice calls or carrier SMS, but WhatsApp, FaceTime and other internet communication services can work through the mobile-data connection.

Quick answer: Check that the phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked, connect it to Wi-Fi, open its SIM settings, choose Add eSIM and scan the NoveSIM QR code. Label the line “NoveSIM” or “Uganda”, leave it installed, and follow the supplied activation instructions when you arrive.

What do you need before installing the Uganda eSIM?

Prepare the phone and installation information before opening the setup screen. This avoids switching between emails and settings while the profile is downloading.

  • A phone model and regional variant that support eSIM.
  • A device that is not locked to another carrier.
  • A stable private Wi-Fi connection.
  • The NoveSIM order email or account information.
  • The QR code, quick-install link or manual installation details supplied with the order.
  • Another trusted screen on which to display the QR code when the phone must scan it.
  • Enough battery power to complete the download without interruption.

Do not rely on a commercial model name alone. Models sold under the same name can have different eSIM capabilities in different regions. Use the guide explaining whether your phone supports an eSIM for Uganda before purchase.

How do you check whether the phone is unlocked?

An eSIM-capable phone may still refuse a travel profile if it is restricted to the home carrier. On iPhone, open Settings → General → About and look for Carrier Lock or Network Provider Lock. Wording varies by region; a result such as “No SIM restrictions” normally indicates that the device is unlocked.

Android does not provide one universal unlocked-status screen. Check the purchase agreement, carrier account or device documentation, or ask the carrier that supplied the phone. If the phone is still financed or tied to a contract, do not assume that eSIM support also means permission to use another provider.

When should you install the NoveSIM profile?

The easiest time is before travel, where dependable Wi-Fi and another device are available. Early installation proves that the profile can be added while there is still time to resolve a compatibility, account or QR-code problem.

NoveSIM states that the Uganda plan begins when Data Roaming is enabled for the travel line and the eSIM connects to a supported local network in the destination. Keep the current order instructions because activation policies can change and the terms supplied with the selected plan take priority.

Stage What should happen
Before departure Download and label the NoveSIM profile over reliable Wi-Fi
Before arrival Keep the profile installed and retain the order instructions
After arrival in Uganda Select NoveSIM for mobile data and enable roaming for that line
First connection Allow the phone time to register on a permitted partner network

How to install a Uganda eSIM on iPhone

Apple’s menu labels vary slightly by iOS version and region. You may see Cellular, Mobile Data or Mobile Service.

  1. Connect the iPhone to reliable private Wi-Fi.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Select Cellular, Mobile Data or Mobile Service.
  4. Tap Add eSIM or Set Up Cellular.
  5. Choose Use QR Code.
  6. Display the NoveSIM QR code on another trusted device and scan it with the iPhone.
  7. Tap Continue and follow the onscreen prompts to add the plan.
  8. Label the new line NoveSIM or Uganda.
  9. Keep the primary SIM selected for calls and SMS if you want to retain that number.
  10. Leave the NoveSIM profile installed and follow the activation instructions at the destination.

On supported recent iOS versions, a QR code opened in the default email application or browser may also offer Add eSIM after a long press. The option depends on the iPhone model, software version and how the installation information was delivered. The country-specific Uganda eSIM guide for iPhone explains the later dual-SIM settings.

How to install a Uganda eSIM on Android

Android manufacturers use different names for the same controls. Look for SIM Manager, Network & Internet, Mobile Network, SIMs, Add eSIM or Download SIM.

  1. Connect the Android phone to reliable private Wi-Fi.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Open the SIM, connections or mobile-network section.
  4. Select Add eSIM, Add SIM, Add mobile plan or Download SIM.
  5. Choose the option to scan a QR code.
  6. Scan the QR code supplied with the NoveSIM order.
  7. Approve the download and wait for the profile to be added.
  8. Label the profile NoveSIM or Uganda.
  9. Keep the profile installed until the trip is complete.

On many Samsung Galaxy devices, the common path is Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add eSIM → Scan QR code. Pixel and other Android interfaces may place the same function under Network & Internet or SIMs. Use the Uganda eSIM guide for Android for manufacturer-specific data-line behaviour.

Can you install the eSIM without scanning the QR code?

Yes, when the order includes manual installation information and the phone provides a manual-entry option. This is useful when the QR code is displayed on the same phone or the camera cannot read it.

  1. Open the phone’s Add eSIM screen.
  2. Select Enter Details Manually, Use activation code or the equivalent option.
  3. Enter the SM-DP+ address exactly as supplied.
  4. Enter the activation code and confirmation code if one was provided.
  5. Review the entries before confirming the download.
  6. Wait for the eSIM profile to appear in the phone’s SIM settings.

Do not guess missing values or substitute a local operator’s settings. If the order does not provide a required detail, contact NoveSIM support rather than purchasing the same plan again.

How do you know the installation succeeded?

A successful installation means that the new profile appears in the SIM or mobile-service settings and can be labelled or enabled. It does not require a Ugandan signal while the phone is outside Uganda.

  • The NoveSIM profile appears as a separate line.
  • The phone allows the line to be renamed.
  • The installation screen no longer asks to download the same profile.
  • The existing primary SIM remains visible if the device supports the chosen dual-SIM arrangement.

Do not try to scan the same QR code repeatedly after the profile has appeared. Installation codes may be intended for one use. Keep the original email as a record, but do not share the QR code publicly or forward it unnecessarily.

What settings should be used after arrival?

Once you are in Uganda and the plan’s activation instructions allow use, configure the phone so NoveSIM carries mobile data.

  1. Open the phone’s SIM or mobile-service settings.
  2. Turn on the NoveSIM line.
  3. Select NoveSIM as the mobile-data line.
  4. Enable Data Roaming for NoveSIM.
  5. Disable automatic mobile-data switching where that option exists.
  6. Keep Data Roaming disabled for the primary SIM if you want to avoid home-carrier data charges.
  7. Leave network selection on Automatic.
  8. Wait several minutes for network registration.
  9. Turn off Wi-Fi and open a new webpage to test the mobile-data path.

NoveSIM availability depends on the selected plan, permitted partner network, phone, region and local coverage. The network icon alone is not a complete test; loading a new page with Wi-Fi off confirms which line is carrying data. See the overview of mobile data in Uganda for data-line and background-traffic controls.

Should the primary SIM remain active?

It can remain active on many compatible dual-SIM phones so that the traveller retains their normal number for incoming calls or carrier messages. Charges from the home provider can still apply to calls, SMS or roaming services.

Select NoveSIM specifically for mobile data, disable automatic data switching and keep roaming off for the primary line. Messaging applications associated with the original number normally continue to use that account through the NoveSIM data connection; changing the data SIM does not automatically change a WhatsApp number.

What if the QR code does not install?

Keep the checks focused on installation. A QR-code problem before the profile appears is different from a mobile-data problem after the profile has been installed.

  1. Confirm that the phone has a stable internet connection.
  2. Verify that the exact device model supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
  3. Increase the QR code size and screen brightness on the other device.
  4. Clean the phone camera and avoid glare across the code.
  5. Use the manual SM-DP+ details if they were supplied.
  6. Check whether the profile already appears in the SIM settings.
  7. Contact NoveSIM support with the order reference, phone model and exact error message.

Do not delete an installed eSIM unless NoveSIM support instructs you to do so. If the profile exists but data fails after arrival, use the separate guide for an Uganda eSIM that is not working.

Do you need to enter an APN during installation?

Usually not. The APN is a mobile-data setting, not part of the normal QR-code download. Leave automatically supplied fields unchanged unless the order instructions or NoveSIM support require manual entry.

When a manual NoveSIM APN is required, use data.esim. Do not enter the APN of a Ugandan domestic operator or another eSIM provider. The Uganda eSIM APN guide explains where to place the value and how to test it.

FAQ

When should I install my Uganda eSIM?

Install it before departure over reliable private Wi-Fi. Keep the profile installed, then follow the activation instructions supplied with the plan when you arrive in Uganda.

Does installing the eSIM start the Uganda plan?

NoveSIM currently states that the plan begins when Data Roaming is enabled for the travel line and it connects to a supported local network in the destination. The current order terms take priority.

Can I scan the QR code from the same phone?

Some recent phones can recognise a QR code from an email or image, but support varies. The reliable method is to display it on another trusted screen or use the manual details supplied with the order.

Can the NoveSIM QR code be used more than once?

Do not assume so. An installation code may be intended for one use. If the profile already appears on the phone, do not scan it again or delete the eSIM without support guidance.

Should Data Roaming be enabled during installation?

It is not needed merely to download the profile over Wi-Fi. Enable Data Roaming for NoveSIM according to the supplied activation instructions when the plan should connect in Uganda.

Will installing NoveSIM remove my normal SIM?

No. Adding an eSIM does not remove a physical SIM. Many compatible phones can keep both lines available, although the supported active-SIM combination depends on the exact model.

What APN should a NoveSIM Uganda eSIM use?

When manual APN entry is required, the NoveSIM APN is data.esim. Leave automatic settings unchanged unless the order instructions or support require manual configuration.

Should I delete the eSIM if mobile data does not work?

No. Keep the installed profile and check the data line, roaming, coverage and APN first. Delete it only if NoveSIM support explicitly instructs you to do so.

Final Recommendation

Install the NoveSIM Uganda eSIM at home over reliable private Wi-Fi after confirming that the exact phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked. Label the profile clearly and keep the QR code private.

After arrival, turn on the NoveSIM line, select it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming according to the current plan instructions. Keep automatic data switching off so the primary SIM does not unexpectedly carry roaming data.

Once the profile appears in the phone settings, do not delete it or scan the code repeatedly. A careful installation before departure leaves only the destination connection and mobile-data test to complete in Uganda.
