Internet in Budapest for Tourists: SIM Cards, eSIM and Roaming

NoveSIM | Last updated on: September 17, 2026 | 2 minute read

Mobile data in Budapest helps with public transport updates, walking routes across Buda and Pest, tickets and bookings. A travel eSIM can be ready before you reach the city.

Accommodation Wi-Fi is useful for downloads, but it does not replace connectivity at stations, viewpoints or on day trips.

NoveSIM plans are data-only and do not supply a Hungarian telephone number.

Quick answer: Prepare a Hungary-covering eSIM before departure, save your first airport route and offline map, then select the eSIM for mobile data after arrival. Keep the home SIM from taking over data.

Top Hungary eSIMs

Prepare routes and tickets

Save accommodation details and the first journey from the airport or station. Download map areas covering both sides of the Danube.

Use the navigation preparation guide.

Manage data in Budapest

Maps and messaging are modest compared with video, cloud backup and hotspot use. Check the travel app data guide before choosing an allowance.

Connect after arrival

  1. Enable the travel profile.
  2. Select it for mobile data.
  3. Apply required roaming.
  4. Disable data switching.
  5. Test with Wi-Fi off.

For manual NoveSIM APN use data.esim. Follow the arrival setup if registration is delayed.

Use public Wi-Fi selectively

Prefer trusted accommodation or official venue networks for large downloads. Avoid sensitive transactions on lookalike hotspots.
