Installing a Hungary eSIM before departure gives you time to solve compatibility, QR code or Wi-Fi problems while you still have a reliable connection. After arrival, you normally need only to turn on the travel line, select it for mobile data and follow the provider’s roaming instruction.
Installation and activation are not always the same event. Installation downloads the eSIM profile to your phone. Activation may happen when the profile first connects to a supported network in Hungary, when you install it or on a specified date. Check the exact plan before starting.
NoveSIM travel eSIM plans are data-only. They normally do not include a Hungarian number, traditional calls or SMS. WhatsApp, FaceTime, Messenger, maps, email and internet calling work through mobile data.
Quick answer: Confirm that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked, connect to stable Wi-Fi, open the device’s Add eSIM menu and scan the supplied QR code. Label the profile Hungary eSIM. After arriving, turn on the line, select it for mobile data, disable automatic data switching and enable roaming on the travel line only when the provider requires it. Do not delete the profile during ordinary troubleshooting.
Top Hungary eSIMs
Before You Install
- Confirm the exact phone model supports eSIM.
- Check that the phone is carrier-unlocked.
- Install supported operating-system updates.
- Connect to reliable private Wi-Fi.
- Open the QR code on another device or print it.
- Save manual activation details if supplied.
- Read when the plan’s validity begins.
Do not buy based only on the model family. Regional versions can differ. If Add eSIM is missing, verify the model number and manufacturer documentation.
For device-specific preparation, see Hungary eSIM for iPhone and Hungary eSIM for Android after those pages are available. For current destination options, use best eSIM for Hungary.
What You Receive After Purchase
The provider usually sends a QR code, direct-install link or manual activation information. Manual details can include an SM-DP+ address, activation code and sometimes a confirmation code. Not every plan supports every method.
Keep the original message until the trip is over. Do not crop, compress or forward a low-quality screenshot of the QR code. Many codes are single-use and should be treated as private activation credentials.
How to Install on iPhone
- Connect the iPhone to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Cellular or Mobile Data.
- Tap Add eSIM.
- Choose Use QR Code.
- Scan the code from another screen.
- Follow the prompts to add the cellular plan.
- Label it Hungary eSIM.
On a compatible unlocked iPhone, the profile should appear under Cellular even when it cannot yet connect outside Hungary. Keep your home line as the default voice line if you need that number, and choose the Hungary line for data after arrival.
How to Install on Google Pixel
- Connect to stable Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings > Network & internet.
- Tap SIMs.
- Tap Add SIM.
- Choose Set up an eSIM.
- Scan the QR code or enter supported manual details.
- Label the profile Hungary eSIM.
Google’s menu wording can change slightly by Android version. If the phone already has two active lines, it may ask which service to disable or how the new line should be used.
How to Install on Samsung Galaxy
- Connect the Galaxy phone to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings > Connections.
- Tap SIM manager.
- Tap Add eSIM.
- Choose Scan QR code.
- Scan the provider code and confirm download.
- Rename the profile Hungary eSIM.
Samsung may also offer carrier discovery or manual installation. Use the method provided with your plan. Restart the phone after installation if SIM manager does not update correctly.
Manual Installation Without a QR Code
Use manual setup only when the provider supplies the required values. On iPhone, the option may appear as Enter Details Manually below the QR scanner. On Android, look for manual entry in the Add eSIM flow.
- Open the Add eSIM menu.
- Select manual entry.
- Enter the SM-DP+ address exactly.
- Enter the activation code.
- Add a confirmation code only if supplied.
- Confirm and wait for the profile download.
Do not guess missing values. See how to manually add an eSIM without a QR code.
Install Before Travel or After Arrival?
Install before travel unless the plan explicitly warns that installation starts validity immediately. Home Wi-Fi is usually more reliable than airport Wi-Fi, and you have easier access to another screen and support.
Keep the travel line turned off until arrival when instructed. A destination eSIM may show “No service” at home because no supported partner network is available there. This does not necessarily mean installation failed.
Settings After Arrival in Hungary
- Turn on Hungary eSIM.
- Select it as the mobile-data line.
- Disable automatic cellular-data switching.
- Enable data roaming on the travel line if required.
- Disable data roaming on the home line.
- Use automatic network selection.
- Toggle airplane mode or restart the phone.
The profile may connect through Telekom, Yettel or One, depending on the plan. It may support one partner or several. Compare the operators in Telekom vs Yettel vs One Hungary and review Hungary eSIM coverage.
Recommended Dual SIM Configuration
| Setting | Home line | Hungary eSIM |
|---|---|---|
| Line enabled | Optional for incoming SMS | On after arrival |
| Mobile data | Not selected | Selected |
| Data roaming | Off | As provider instructs |
| Calls and SMS | Use cautiously | Usually unavailable on data-only plan |
Keeping the home line enabled can help with bank verification messages, but calls and outgoing SMS may incur roaming charges. Check the home carrier’s tariff.
How to Confirm Installation Worked
The Hungary profile should appear in SIM settings with an on/off control. After arrival, the phone should register on a network and display LTE, 4G or 5G. Open a webpage with Wi-Fi turned off to test mobile data.
Do not use only signal bars as proof. The phone can register on a network without an active data session if the wrong line is selected or the plan has no remaining allowance.
QR Code Problems
The Phone Cannot Scan the Code
Open the original code on another screen, increase brightness, clean the camera lens and avoid extreme zoom. Use manual setup if supported.
The Code Says It Is Already Used
Check whether the profile already appears in SIM settings. Many QR codes work only once. Contact support rather than deleting the installed profile.
Installation Stops During Download
Reconnect to stable Wi-Fi, restart the phone and retry only if the profile is absent. A captive airport network or VPN can interrupt the download.
See eSIM QR code not working for additional checks.
Installed but No Internet
Confirm that Hungary eSIM is enabled and selected for mobile data. Follow the plan’s roaming instruction, check the allowance and use automatic network selection. Toggle airplane mode for 30 seconds or restart.
If the provider supplies an APN, enter it exactly. Do not copy an APN from an unrelated plan. Two eSIMs on the same Hungarian network can use different roaming platforms and settings.
Do Not Delete the Profile During Basic Troubleshooting
Deletion can make recovery harder because the activation code may not be reusable. First check line status, data selection, roaming, APN, allowance and network selection. Contact support before removal.
Using Apps and Your Existing Number
WhatsApp normally keeps the number already registered. iMessage, FaceTime, Signal, Telegram and other apps use the travel data connection. You do not need to change the app number merely because you installed a data-only eSIM.
For ordinary calls, use internet calling or the home line with caution. A data-only eSIM does not provide emergency calling or a local number unless the product explicitly says otherwise.
Before Returning Home
- Select the home SIM for mobile data.
- Turn the home line fully on.
- Turn off Hungary eSIM.
- Keep or remove it according to reuse and validity rules.
- Confirm home-network service before leaving Wi-Fi.

Install before travel and turn on or connect the line in Hungary according to the plan’s activation rule.
