Check Mainland China and Vietnam Separately
As checked on 28 October 2026, our South East Asia eSIM lists China and Vietnam among its supported destinations. Use the current coverage and network information for the particular offer you choose rather than assuming every regional product has that same footprint.
Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau must be checked as separate destinations. A product listing Hong Kong or Macau does not establish mainland China coverage. “Asia” in an offer’s name is not enough to confirm the route.
If you already own a package, inspect the conditions attached to that purchase and match it to the installed profile. For separate allowances, compare the current China eSIM plans and Vietnam eSIM plans. Check any additional stop or transit country independently before relying on the same service there.

One profile can reduce switching, but it does not guarantee better coverage or instant registration after entry. Separate plans can suit uneven stays, but more profiles do not improve reception by themselves. Compare the permitted networks, validity and services for the itinerary you actually have.
Check hotspot permission and any 4G or 5G access before buying for another device or work. A network technology label does not promise a particular speed in either country.
Check What Starts Validity
Read the selected package and order instructions before installation. Adding the profile, enabling the line, activating the package and making a first supported network connection are separate events. The specific rules determine which event starts validity.
Where advance installation is permitted without beginning validity earlier than intended, use a stable internet connection before departure. Keep each profile clearly identified and retain the setup instructions. Do not activate a package early simply as a test if that could start its period.
Plan in either direction: China to Vietnam or Vietnam to China. An already active regional package does not receive a fresh full period just because you enter its second country. Check the actual expiry date and time, including any stated time zone, and cover the last day when data is needed.
With separate services, check each package’s start conditions independently. Do not assume the second package has the same activation rule as the first or that a longer stay leaves the initial allowance valid.
Check Remaining Data before Changing Countries
Use the provider’s supplied balance method to inspect the correct purchased package. Check remaining data, current expiry and any high-speed allowance. Your phone’s counter can help identify heavy use, but may measure a different period from the supplier’s balance.
For a shared allowance, reserve data for the next arrival, transfer and accommodation contact. With separate plans, check the second country’s allowance independently rather than treating unused first-country data as available there.
Separate a depleted total quota from a reached high-speed threshold. Depending on the purchased conditions, data may stop, continue at reduced speed or require another purchase. Do not assume a daily limit resets at midnight in the local time zone after crossing.
Pause unnecessary photo and video backups, app updates and laptop background transfers. Hotspot traffic can consume the same allowance that you need for the second part of the journey.
If more service is needed, confirm what is available for that package. Extra data, extended validity and a new package are different options. Check eligibility, the resulting expiry and the profile to use before paying; adding data does not automatically extend time.
Prepare for China’s App-Access Environment
A mobile-data connection in mainland China does not establish that every familiar app or website will be reachable. Country inclusion, network registration and access to an individual service are separate questions. Do not promise a particular app-access result merely because a regional eSIM is selected.

If one app or website fails while other fresh pages load, investigate that service’s availability, login and permissions before treating the eSIM as broken. Do not delete a working profile because one service is unreachable.
Save the Next Arrival Offline
For a flight or land crossing, keep the current ticket, exact arrival point, accommodation address and agreed pickup instructions available without internet. Include any onward stop that requires its own package or transfer.
Download the relevant map where available and check what the app can actually do offline. Keep written addresses, booking references and contact arrangements separately, since an app may need a connection to reload them.
Follow local instructions on device use during border formalities. Complete the entry process before troubleshooting, and allow for a connection gap rather than depending on live data at the exact crossing point.
Reconnect after Entering the Next Country
- Confirm that the purchased package includes the country entered and still has usable validity and data.
- Identify the correct profile. With one qualifying regional package, keep that profile; with separate services, select the line intended for the new country.
- Enable the intended line and assign it to Mobile Data.
- Apply that provider’s Data Roaming instructions. Keep home-line Data Roaming off and disable automatic data switching where available.
- Start with Automatic Network Selection and allow time for registration on an authorised partner network.
- Switch Wi-Fi off briefly and load a fresh webpage, then check the booking or message needed for the onward journey.
- If registration appears stalled, briefly toggle Airplane Mode and allow time to reconnect before changing further settings.
If manual NoveSIM APN entry is required, use data.esim with username and password blank. These are not universal settings for another provider’s profile. An APN change cannot add a country excluded from the package.

If service remains unavailable, check whether the issue is no registration, signal without data or only one failing app. Give the relevant supplier the order, package status, country and location, phone model and visible error, concealing activation credentials in screenshots.
