SIM Cards in Curaçao: Local Calls, Shops or a Travel eSIM?

Local SIM cards in Curaçao are most useful when you need a telephone line as well as internet. If your trip only requires maps, bookings and app messages, compare a local data bundle with a travel eSIM before arranging a shop visit.

Digicel and Flow, also known through the Chippie and UTS names, publish tourist options. Their public information does not settle every purchase condition: check the actual offer, required documents and remaining opening hours before paying or travelling to a counter.

At NoveSIM, we provide travel eSIM plans for mobile data. We do not provide a Curaçao telephone number, conventional calls or SMS with these plans. WhatsApp and other internet calling apps can use the data connection.

Quick answer: Investigate a local tourist SIM if you need ordinary calls or a local number. Digicel lists shops at Biesheuvel, Sambil and Hato Airport, but airport opening times and physical-SIM stock are not fully specified. Flow advertises Tourist SIMs through UTS stores, although its data-extension information conflicts. Neither operator’s checked tourist pages provide a complete visitor-registration checklist. For data only, compare NoveSIM on an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone.

Do you need a Curaçao number or simply mobile data?

Ask your accommodation or activity organiser how they will contact you. A WhatsApp conversation can continue with your existing account over a new data connection; it does not by itself require a new local number. An ordinary telephone call to a rental desk is a different requirement.

What you need What to compare
Local telephone calls or SMS A local SIM with the appropriate allowance and confirmed number service.
Navigation, reservations and app messages Usable data and validity from a local bundle or travel eSIM.
Service on a phone without eSIM support A compatible physical SIM or a suitable home-provider roaming option.
Data arranged before departure A travel eSIM whose device requirements and activation rules you have checked.

The NoveSIM Curaçao product page provides our current data allowances, validity and prices. Compare the complete cost for your dates rather than treating a local calling package and a data-only package as identical products.

Digicel: distinguish the online eSIM from a physical Tourist SIM

Digicel’s Curaçao tourist offer page displays eSIM packages for 3, 7 and 14 days. It directs customers seeking a physical Tourist SIM to a store. That does not establish that the physical version has the same price or allowances.

The separate Tourist SIM terms, marked as updated on 14 October 2025, describe 7- and 14-day packages. They distinguish the package duration, counted from activation, from the SIM’s one-month active life. The original tourist package cannot be renewed according to these terms, although an LTE plan can be bought while the SIM remains active.

There are discrepancies to resolve before purchase. The sales page includes a 3-day offer not covered by those terms, and its FAQ mentions topping up to avoid expiry while the separate terms say the SIM expires after one month. Ask which rules apply to the exact product being sold; do not assume that adding credit restores an expired package.

Included calling benefits also need checking by destination and network. A reference to calls within Digicel is not the same as an allowance for any local number.

Where Digicel lists purchase locations

The official Curaçao store locator lists the following locations. These are published listings, not a confirmation of today’s stock.

  • Mega Store, Biesheuvel 24–25: listed Monday to Friday, 8:00–17:30, and Saturday, 9:00–15:00.
  • Sambil: listed Sunday to Thursday, 11:00–20:00, and Friday to Saturday, 11:00–21:00.
  • Hato Airport kiosk: listed Monday to Sunday, without exact opening or closing times.

For an evening arrival, do not build your transport plan around finding an open airport counter. Confirm hours and physical Tourist SIM availability through Digicel before departure. Save your accommodation address and pickup instructions offline so you can reach your accommodation even if the kiosk is closed.

Flow / Chippie: confirm the allowance and extension rules

Flow’s Tourist SIM page advertises 1 GB and 3 GB options through UTS stores, with calling and SMS allowances and 30-day validity. Check which local numbers the included minutes cover.

The page first says further data cannot be activated after the allowance is consumed. Its terms later describe an Extra Data option. It also retains ANG-denominated information. These inconsistencies mean the page should not be treated as a definitive current price or extension schedule.

Before paying, ask the staff to confirm the total charge and currency, usable data, validity start and whether extra data can be added to that particular Tourist SIM. Ordinary prepaid credit and an additional data allowance are not interchangeable.

We have not confirmed a current Flow store list and opening schedule from the available public information. Older UTS relocation and closure notices are not reliable instructions for where to go today. Use Flow’s customer service to identify a location that can sell and activate the requested product.

Registration: what remains unconfirmed

The tourist pages checked for this guide do not provide a complete, current document checklist for a non-resident buying a prepaid SIM. Digicel’s postpaid application requirements concern a different service and should not be used to invent tourist requirements.

Bring your original passport as practical preparation, but confirm the full requirements directly with the chosen shop. This is not a verified statement that a passport alone is sufficient. Ask whether the location can register a foreign visitor, what details it records and whether activation can be completed there.

If buying for calls, have the staff identify the assigned number and explain incoming and outgoing call charges. If the transaction only supplies data, it will not meet a requirement for conventional telephone service.

Leave the counter with a tested connection

  1. Confirm that the phone is carrier-unlocked and supports the SIM format offered.
  2. Have the seller state the total cost, data allowance, package expiry and any calling benefits.
  3. Complete the operator’s registration and activation process before your onward journey.
  4. Select the new line for mobile data, then switch Wi-Fi off briefly and load a fresh webpage.
  5. Test the calling or SMS function if that was the reason for buying the local line.
  6. Keep the receipt, number and support contact, and ask how to check the remaining allowance.

Ask the operator to resolve a failed test while you are still at the counter. Use the settings for the service you actually bought rather than copying another operator’s instructions.

Choosing NoveSIM when you only need internet

A data-only travel eSIM avoids the need to buy a local calling line when navigation and internet messages are sufficient. Before purchasing, use our phone eSIM compatibility guide and check carrier-unlocked status. The model’s regional version can matter.

Check the selected Curaçao plan’s activation and validity rules before installing. Choose it as the mobile-data line on arrival and enable data roaming on that line as instructed. Keep home-line data roaming off if you do not intend to pay for it, and prevent automatic data switching back to the home line.

If you need to keep your existing number available, read about using a travel eSIM alongside your original SIM. Keeping that line enabled does not make home-provider calls or SMS free abroad.

Compare actual data needs and fair-use conditions rather than selecting solely by an unlimited label. Hotspot, speed and available networks depend on the chosen plan, phone and local coverage. If the itinerary also includes Aruba or Bonaire, verify each destination in your selected package; another operator’s regional offer does not establish NoveSIM coverage.

FAQ

Can I buy a tourist SIM at Curaçao Airport?

Digicel lists a kiosk at Hato Airport, but its directory does not give precise hours or confirm current physical Tourist SIM stock. Check before arrival and retain offline pickup details instead of assuming the counter will be open.

Is a passport enough to register a local SIM?

The checked operator tourist pages do not establish a complete current checklist. Bring your passport and ask the shop whether it can register a non-resident and what else it requires. Postpaid application documents do not establish prepaid tourist rules.

Can I add more data to a Flow Tourist SIM?

Flow’s page gives conflicting information about this. Confirm the extension option and price for the exact SIM before purchase rather than assuming an ordinary top-up adds usable data.

Does a NoveSIM Curaçao eSIM include local calls?

No. Our travel plans provide mobile data, not a Curaçao number or conventional calls and SMS. Internet calling apps can use the connection. Investigate a local calling SIM if you need ordinary telephone service.

Final Recommendation

When comparing SIM cards in Curaçao, choose a local calling package if you need ordinary telephone service, and confirm registration, allowances and activation with the seller. Digicel has identifiable purchase locations; Flow’s published tourist restrictions need clarification before relying on them.

For internet alone, compare NoveSIM’s current Curaçao data plans with the full cost and validity of the local option. An unlocked, compatible phone and the correct data-line settings are prerequisites, not details to discover after payment.

Do not let an uncertain airport purchase determine your first journey. Keep the arrival instructions offline, then test whichever connection you choose before relying on it for the rest of the trip.
